Just east of the capital of Madeira, Funchal, along the island's south coast, the visitor can find a relaxed town also known as Lower Canico, the town of Canico de Baixo. The town offers to its visitors some quite rugged beaches which are backed by cliffs, some chic villas and hotels and a pretty prom.
Up the hill, just few minutes of driving, the other half of the town, the old town of Upper Canico can be found. The visitor will find here a traditional village which has a nice square and an 18th century church.
